How can I make my eye makeup look natural as I age?

As I get older, a major concern is that my eye makeup doesn't apply as well as it used to. The skin around my eyes is becoming thinner and losing elasticity, causing it to sag naturally. When I apply eyeshadow over this, the color payoff is weak, and it seems to clump or smudge quickly. In the past, simply applying a single shimmer eyeshadow was enough to make my eyes look radiant, but lately, it actually emphasizes wrinkles or makes my complexion look dull, which is really dampening my confidence. I want to make my eyes look sharper, like with eye shape correction, but the techniques I'm used to no longer work beautifully. It's frustrating, and I'm wondering if I need to find a new approach. When I look at makeup YouTube videos or reviews, I find that there are specific methods suited for different age groups. For instance, they recommend focusing on subtle matte tones rather than shimmer, and creating a natural gradient through soft blending rather than using only dark shades for shading. They also say that for eyeliner, lightly filling in just the waterline to create a defined look is much less overwhelming than drawing a thick line. However, when I actually try to follow these tips, it's often frustrating because they don't apply well to my face. I know aging is inevitable, but I want to find ways to make my eyes look a little brighter and healthier. I'm curious to know what tips others with similar concerns use.
