Won't highlighter look too hot in the summer? Please tell me how to apply it.

My face looks dull and lacks vitality, so I was thinking of trying something.
The Cezanne highlighter really caught my eye, so I bought it.
It was also quite famous at one point because a celebrity was said to be using it, haha.
However, I don't usually use highlighters, and this product has a generous amount of shimmer.
I was afraid I would look really tacky if I used this wrong, so I couldn't bring myself to try it and just left it shoved in my drawer.
Won't this pearl type look a bit too hot for the summer?
It's hot anyway, so I was thinking I might just try applying it.
I'm a total makeup newbie and I don't know how to apply this (I learned makeup through books... ㅠㅠ)
How can I use it to create a subtle glow and a bright look without being too flashy?
