Would my skin feel stuffy if I applied too much moisturizer?

My skin is dry, so I tend to apply a lot of moisturizing cream.
There are times when it feels stuffy, as if a film has been placed on my face, rather than feeling moisturized.
Especially if you apply a generous amount before bed, a slight stickiness remains until the next morning.
At first, I thought the more I applied, the better because it was dry.
But if I apply more than a certain amount, it feels like it doesn't absorb and just sits on the surface.
But if I reduce the amount, my cheeks dry out quickly, so I'm not sure what the right amount is.
How much moisturizing cream should I apply?
I'm curious whether it's better to just reapply to dry areas, or if it's more important to apply a sufficient amount of ampoule or toner before the cream.
I use Round Lab's birch tree moisturizing cream.
