Are there contouring techniques suitable for different face shapes?

My face is on the rounder side. I always tend to contour to make it look slimmer when I do my makeup. However, I would like to get some recommendations on if there is a better method. I put a lot of effort into my makeup because I want my face to look oval, like an egg. Since getting plastic surgery isn't easy, wouldn't changing my makeup routine at least be effective? I am curious about contouring methods suitable for a round face.
