How do you exfoliate your lips?

How does everyone take care of dead skin cells on their lips? I heard Vaseline is good, so I apply it before bed, but the next morning the dead skin cells soften and start peeling off. Then, if I apply colored lip balm that day, my lips look neat. (I don't use lip tints because they dry out quickly.)

But you know how I apply lip balm to keep my lips moisturized before lip gloss? (I use Innisfree Canola Honey Lip Balm.) After that, I apply the lip gloss, and once some time passes, the dead skin cells swell up and look bumpy, so I end up constantly picking at them to smooth them out.

Does everyone else get dry, flaky lips this often, and when they just apply lip balm, they swell up and fall off every time? Sigh, lip care is my biggest worry. I keep several lip balms placed in visible spots to keep them hydrated, but the dry skin problem is really hard to deal with.
