Daiso, a fixed-price household goods store, is expanding its sales of health functional foods.

 

According to Asung Daiso, the operator of Daiso, on the 17th, sales of health functional foods, including nutritional supplements, will begin on the 24th at 200 stores. Representative products include lutein, omega-3, and vitamin D.

 

Currently, pharmaceutical companies such as Daewoong Pharmaceutical have opened stores at Daiso and have sold over-the-counter drugs, but this is the first time that health supplements are being sold.

 

Previously, Daiso conducted a temporary test sale at its directly managed store, Maebong Station branch, on the 14th.

 

Daiso's handling of health functional foods is interpreted as a strategy to increase its sales volume. According to the Korea Health Functional Food Association, the domestic health functional food market recorded 6.044 trillion won last year. This represents a 16.8% increase compared to 2021, four years ago.

 

Intensified competition with Olive Young is also expected in the future. Olive Young is currently expanding its product range, including health supplements, as it aims to become a health and beauty 'lifestyle platform.' This effectively expands the battlefront with Daiso from beauty products to health supplements. It is estimated that both companies surpassed 4 trillion won in sales last year.
