My skin doesn't look pretty when I apply mineral sunscreen.

I find it difficult to apply chemical sunscreens because they sting my eyes severely. So I've been using mineral sunscreen, but due to the nature of minerals, my skin looks heavy and cakey. I want my skin to look radiant; would chemical sunscreen still be the answer? Or should I skip sunscreen and go straight to foundation?
