Highlighter placement: Where should I apply it if I have prominent cheekbones?

I usually like highlighters, so I'm trying out different kinds.

If you look it up, you'll often find advice to apply highlighter to the highest part of your cheekbones.

But I have a face shape with slightly protruding cheekbones.
I applied it as is, and it felt like my cheekbones looked even more prominent.

So I became curious if people with prominent cheekbones need to position their highlighter a little differently.

Should I apply it on my cheekbones, or should I apply it inward or under my eyes for a more natural look...

I saw that the placement of highlighter changes depending on your face shape.
Where do people with prominent cheekbones usually apply it?
