Does the type of cushion puff make a big difference in makeup?

I've heard a lot of people say that even if you use the same cushion, changing the puff makes a difference in your skin finish.

Some people say they like a bouncy puff, and
Some people say the teardrop puff is the best, so I'm confused.

With just one puff
Is there a significant difference in makeup adherence?

I've seen quite a few posts saying they switched because they didn't like the puff.
