How long do you wash your hair when shampooing?

I tend to be a bit impatient.

It doesn't seem to last very long, but

Even so, if you feel like you have thoroughly scrubbed every nook and cranny

I rinse it off, you know? How long is usually good to do it for? I feel like doing it for too long isn't good either, though.
