What contouring do you use? Stick eyeshadow?

I'm a beginner at contouring~^-^ I see on YouTube and other places that people seem to do their noses and cheekbones so easily, but my cheekbones are quite prominent. I'm not sure if I should use a stick or eyeshadow,~; I'm asking because it's making me look really dark.
