When applying tone-up cream to the neck

The face base has color, so

It’s a bit awkward to wear on the neck...

So sometimes I use a white tone-up cream when there is a difference in tone between my face and neck. Even though the color doesn't stain my clothes, the texture of the cream tends to rub off, so I'm a bit hesitant to apply it to my neck. How do you all usually handle this?
