Applications of Walking Exercise: Trying Them in Daily Life

Do you walk 10,000 steps every day?

I have been sticking to the daily 10,000-step walking exercise for...

It's been about four years.

I heard there are other exercise methods that apply this walking exercise.

So, I do the high-intensity exercises during my morning workout.

Deep down glad to see you 😀

When you decide to exercise, I think the hardest part is actually starting. Although there is a set time to finish the workday, there are countless people who cannot complete their tasks according to their own will.

There are many times when I feel too exhausted to even think about exercising after dragging my tired body home. I also doubt how effective it will be to start now, having never done it before. It is also true that I worry about exercising half-heartedly and getting even more tired, which might affect my performance the next day.

When you think of exercise, do you picture yourself running or lifting weights at the gym while sweating profusely? However, if you imagine that scene before you even start, you might never be able to begin. Ideally, the start should be light. There is a huge difference between exercising, even if it is only for a short while, and not exercising at all. Small efforts will accumulate and eventually build the vitality to step out and exercise on your own.

10 minutes after the meal, Heinz

High knees are, quite literally, exercises where you lift your knees high. The advantage is that you can do them easily anywhere, as they can be performed while standing and do not take up much space. You also don't need to do them for a long time; investing just about 10 minutes after lunch is sufficient.

The movement is simple. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, then lift your knees as high as possible. It helps improve core strength and stability, and if you increase the speed, you can also get the benefits of a full-body cardio workout. You might think, "Only 10 minutes?", but anyone who has tried it knows how difficult it is to hold this position for 10 minutes.

Feeling embarrassed to do this in a crowded place? Isn't there at least one secluded spot everywhere? Just do it naturally, as if you were stretching your stiff body. If it is difficult to lift your knees high, simply lift them as high as you can, as if you were marching in place.

Climbing stairs

There are likely not many people who do not have at least one set of stairs in their daily routine, whether at work or at home. Furthermore, climbing stairs is considered a highly effective exercise in terms of time efficiency. This is because it is a versatile workout that can strengthen everything from the calves to the thighs and the back of the buttocks.

When returning to your workspace after a meal or heading home, try taking just 10 to 20 minutes to walk up the stairs. You can start by climbing slowly to warm up, and then adjust the intensity by climbing faster once you've warmed up. If there aren't many stairs, you can also adapt this by repeating the process of going up and down a few times.

However, when descending stairs, you must pay attention to your posture as it can easily place strain on joints such as the knees. Please note that you should descend while ensuring your heel makes full contact with each step with every step; this helps distribute your body weight evenly and reduces the impact on your knee joints.

Walking backwards

You have likely seen middle-aged or elderly people walking backward in parks or on walking trails. Since the pace is usually slow, people may doubt its effectiveness, but it is an exercise that burns far more calories than you might think.

It is common for the stride to become wider when walking backward compared to walking forward. This is because the stride tends to be relatively larger due to limited field of vision, and the feet are extended further to maintain balance and to overcome psychological anxiety.

Furthermore, walking backward uses different muscles than walking forward. Although the act of 'walking' is the same, it effectively becomes a completely different exercise because the muscles used are different. If there is a gentle incline along the exercise route, the effectiveness of walking backward is doubled.
