Dry eye syndrome causes the eyes to become severely stiff.
1. If the dryness is caused by insufficient tear production, use artificial tears frequently. Avoid physiological saline solution, as it lacks fat and can wash away normal tears.
2. Consciously blink frequently to prevent dry eyes. Pay particular attention to this, as the frequency of blinking decreases when concentrating on a computer screen or a book.
3. Avoid eye makeup or powder. This is because cosmetic particles can fly around and cause more severe irritation to dry eyes. Lotions and creams can also be irritating, so be careful to keep them out of your eyes.
4. Since fatigue worsens dry eye syndrome, it is advisable to rest your eyes frequently. When focusing on close objects, look at something far away, even if only for a moment. Closing your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes without looking at anything is also a good way to relieve eye strain.
5. Clean the eyelids. Soak a gauze or cotton pad in a commercially available cleaning solution and wipe the area where the eyelashes grow. It is also helpful to wash your hands thoroughly, prepare a warm wet towel, and apply a warm compress by gently pressing on the eyelids.
6. If you have dry eyes, wear glasses instead of contact lenses. This is because dry eyes can easily cause scratches on the cornea. If you must wear them, wear glasses only briefly when necessary.
