eyeshadow

When I apply products with a lot of shimmer, eyeshadow flakes fall around my eyes, causing me to rub them all day long. My eyes also frequently get red when the powder gets into the inner corners or on my mucous membranes. Could you recommend an eyeshadow that is less shimmery and has a brighter finish? I'm curious how people who find cosmetics suit them well do their eye makeup. My eye area feels too bare if I don't apply anything at all, but my eyes sting if I apply it every time.
