Let's find out summer exfoliation methods for different skin types

oily skin

For oily skin, summer is the time when pores easily become clogged due to excess sebum, and seborrheic keratin (shiny, smooth dead skin cells) reaches its peak. Unlike dry keratin, seborrheic keratin is characterized by its thick thickness and strong binding power.
Because thick dead skin cells make it difficult for moisture to penetrate deep into the skin even with the best hydrating essence, if your skin feels oily on the surface but severely tight underneath during the summer, you can assume that seborrheic keratin is the culprit.
Oily skin requires managing exfoliation by using a 0.5% BHA (salicylic acid) toner every evening, but adding enzymes to this during the summer is the solution.
To maximize the effects of the enzymes, it is best to use them in a warm, humid environment. After showering, wash your face with an enzyme cleanser containing papaya enzymes as the final step in a steam-filled shower stall. If possible, waiting 2 to 3 minutes while brushing your teeth with foam on your face is more effective for dissolving sebum.

Acne-prone skin

The most common mistake people with acne-prone skin make when it comes to exfoliation is focusing only on the surface using scrubs or peeling gels. Since whiteheads (milia) that cause acne form inside the pores, acne-prone skin requires exfoliation not only of the surface but also of the skin deep within the pores. It is difficult to see results with physical exfoliants like scrubs or low-concentration AHA/BHA.
In order for exfoliating ingredients to penetrate deep into the pores of areas where pores are clogged and acne frequently occurs, the concentration must be at least 7-10% AHA and 1-2% BHA, but the reality is that it is difficult to find BHA with a concentration of 0.5% or higher in Korea.
Rather than relying solely on cosmetic BHA, use Clearteen (2% BHA solution - available at pharmacies) for spot treatment to pat clogged pores and remove dead skin cells that accumulate inside the pores.
About twice a week, use a deep cleansing mask containing green clay to thoroughly cleanse away sebum and dead skin cells.

Dry/Sensitive Skin

Even if you have dry skin, during the summer, sebum is secreted to some extent, mainly around the T-zone, causing the bridge of the nose to become rough with blackheads and dry dead skin cells to be felt all over the skin.
You often see posts claiming that sensitive skin does not need exfoliation or that one should not exfoliate, but this is not true.
For dry and sensitive skin, you should exfoliate more mildly than for normal skin and choose a method that removes dead skin cells while simultaneously providing moisture.
