Tips on the order of base makeup to reduce pore emphasis
My concern was that when I only applied base makeup, the pores around my nose and cheeks were clearly visible, preventing my makeup from applying cleanly. Up close, the foundation would settle into the pores, making it look bumpy, and it felt like the issue became even more pronounced over time, which really stressed me out. However, I found that changing the order and method of my application helped resolve my concerns a bit.
Step 1
Thoroughly cleanse your skin after skincare.
If you apply foundation immediately while there is still oil on your skin, your pores are likely to look more prominent. After applying your basic skincare products, gently press with your hands to aid absorption, and if necessary, lightly blot only the T-zone with a tissue to remove excess oil.
Tip
Remove surface oil while retaining moisture!
Step 2
Use primer by filling in the pores rather than rubbing. Apply a small amount only to areas where pores are a concern, then gently press with your fingers or a puff to push them in. Rubbing can actually accentuate pores, so it is important to apply it by squeezing as much as possible.
Tip
It is much more effective to apply a thin layer only where needed, rather than using too much!
Step 3
Apply foundation in thin layers multiple times.
If you apply too much at once, it tends to settle into the pores and actually make them look more prominent. Applying a small amount with a puff and spreading it thinly, then adding a little more only to the areas that need it, results in a much more natural finish.
Tip
Gently patting with a puff enhances adhesion!
Step 4
For the finishing touch, apply powder only to the pore areas, rather than covering the entire face. Applying too much powder to the whole face can actually make it look dry and cakey, further accentuating pores. It is best to lightly press and set the powder only on areas where oil tends to rise, such as the sides of the nose and the center of the cheeks.
After doing it this way every time, I noticed a significant reduction in pore visibility, and my skin looked much smoother. Instead of covering it up with a thick layer like before, building up a thin layer to even out the look is much more natural and lasts longer. My skin finish stays much more stable, so I am satisfied with how I do my base makeup.
