Since I have to shave, it’s a hassle, but I can’t really skip it. My skin is already very irritated, and when I’m in a hurry, I end up shaving in a rush, which makes the irritation even worse.
When you shave every day, you often get red bumps or breakouts around your chin and mouth that sting. At first, I thought it was a problem with the razor blade, so I tried changing it frequently, but I realized that how you soothe your skin after shaving is the most important thing.
Here is a simple method that I've been seeing results from lately.
After shaving and rinsing with lukewarm water, do not apply lotion immediately. Instead, soak a cotton pad with a cooling soothing pad (available at pharmacies or places like Olive Young) or a toner containing Houttuynia cordata or Cica, and simply place it on the shaved area for 1 to 2 minutes. Keeping it cold will quickly reduce skin heat and significantly lower redness.
Also, when choosing skincare products, it is best to avoid toners that contain too much alcohol. It is easy to mistake the burning sensation when applied for a cooling effect, but it can further irritate wounded skin, making it prone to flaking or breakouts.
Even if it feels like a hassle, try investing just one extra minute in a soothing step after shaving. It’s great because the area around your chin becomes much cleaner, and breakouts visibly decrease.
