Humidity Management in a Dry House During Winter
During the winter, indoor environments often become dry due to heating. Therefore, maintaining proper humidity is important for respiratory health as well as skin health. Here are some ways to manage indoor humidity during the winter:
1. Using a humidifier: Using a humidifier allows you to easily regulate indoor humidity. When using a humidifier, you must regularly replace the water or clean it. Otherwise, bacteria may multiply.
2. Growing Plants: Plants play a role in increasing humidity by releasing absorbed water into the environment. Plants that thrive indoors during the winter include Spathiphyllum and Potted Tobacco.
3. Place a bowl of water: If you place a bowl of water near a radiator or stove, you can regulate humidity as the water evaporates.
4. Leave the door open after showering: After showering, you can increase the humidity in your home by utilizing the humid air from the bathroom. Leaving the door open after showering allows the humid air to spread throughout the house, thereby increasing humidity.
5. Drying laundry: Drying laundry indoors has the effect of increasing humidity as water evaporates from the laundry.
As such, maintaining proper indoor humidity during the winter can prevent skin or respiratory problems caused by dryness. Humidity levels of around 40–60% are known to be ideal.
