Choosing a shampoo for oily hair

Shampoos specifically designed for dandruff often contain antifungal ingredients such as ketoconazole, ciclopiroxolamine, piroctoneolamine, and zinc pyrithione. Ketoconazole and ciclopiroxolamine are commonly found in over-the-counter dandruff shampoos. If you have an oily scalp with excessive sebum but little flaking, you should choose a shampoo with good cleansing power that does not contain antifungal ingredients. Salicylic acid is very helpful for oily scalps as it dissolves excess dead skin cells and penetrates into sebum to provide anti-inflammatory effects.
