Has anyone experienced ingrown hair inflammation?

There hasn't been any improvement after taking the two-day supply of medicine the pharmacy gave me, so I'm going to the hospital on Monday...

I've been shaving my calves since middle school. I've never had this problem before... but now that I'm getting older, is this becoming a problem?

Has anyone experienced this and can share some tips on how to handle it?
