Do you all think that cosmetics also have a detoxification crisis?

Why is it that natural products always have warnings saying that breakouts are a temporary detoxification reaction and will improve as your skin adapts, so you should keep using them even if you experience breakouts? I get scared and stop using the product immediately if I get a breakout, but does a detoxification reaction really exist in cosmetics?
