Are blemish serums or creams effective?

For old acne marks, blemishes, or freckles, use a blemish serum or cream.

Or, would it be effective if I consistently applied things like the vitamin whitening creams that are popular these days?

The product description says it is effective, but I’m curious if it actually works. What do you think?
