Why use a wiping toner?

I received a lot of comments saying that wiping toner is good, so I just left a reply saying I should try it too haha.

When I actually tried it, I didn't feel much of a difference compared to just applying it, so I didn't really understand why it's supposed to be good.

Does it absorb better into the skin if you wipe with a cotton pad?

Is that why wiping toners are popular? If so, I'm thinking of trying them consistently haha.
