How do you pat the cushion when using it?

I mainly use it to touch up my cushion.

But as I used it, I got a bit curious lol

When I see other people using it, they press it really hard and firmly against their skin.

How do you all use it? I don't use it that hard.

I don't do that, but do you use it that way because hitting it hard ensures good contact?
