I use a tongue cleaner.

I gag so badly when I brush my tongue with a toothbrush that I'm currently using a tongue cleaner. It makes it less strenuous, allowing for a pleasant finish. Also, it definitely cleans more thoroughly, leaving my mouth feeling refreshed. I think keeping your tongue clean is just as important as keeping your teeth clean for perfect hygiene.
