Twenty years ago, I started orthodontic treatment at a slightly later age than others.

On the day I first had my braces attached after the tooth extraction, I cried so much out of embarrassment, which was worse than the pain.

However, as a day or two passed, the discomfort felt much, much greater than the embarrassment.

It was so difficult to manage the food getting stuck between my braces that on days I ate out, I couldn't even open my mouth properly to smile, fearing that something might be lodged there.

So, I always carried a bag full of toothbrushes, interdental brushes, and a floss set, brushing my teeth and flossing twelve times a day. Back then, I used floss that was coiled up like a ball of yarn; while it was convenient to carry, wetting my hand between my braces and rubbing it back and forth was an incredibly difficult and strenuous task.

Then, the Y-shaped disposable dental floss the dentist handed me was a whole new world!!

From then on, use only Y-shaped dental floss.

And even now that my orthodontic treatment is over, I continue to take care of my teeth by using dental floss as an essential part of my brushing routine.

 

 

 

 

Assuming we brush our teeth three or four times a day, that amounts to about four packs a day. Since all four family members use it, the usage is truly enormous. That is why we always stock up on large quantities of dental floss.

The handle is made of polystyrene, so it is very durable. If it were too flexible, it would bend inside the mouth and be difficult to use, but since it is made of a sturdy material that doesn't bend, it seems very good.

The upper part is shaped like a Y and is sized to be inserted into every nook and cranny, even inside the molars.

✿ Thread thickness cannot be selected ✿

The rolled dental floss I used in the past allowed me to choose the thickness, and there were even mint-flavored varieties. It is somewhat disappointing that not only Vita Halo but also these Y-shaped flosses lack options for thickness or scent. Since the width of the interdental spaces varies from person to person, it would be very beneficial if the floss thicknesses were available in a wider variety.

 

✿ Inconvenient to carry ✿

The roll-up dental floss came in a small case, making it very convenient to carry around. However, since Vita Halo didn't come with a separate case, I carried it in a Ziploc bag for a while; because of the sharp end, the bag would tear every day. The pain of pricking my hand while taking it out was an added bonus. I happened to find a cotton swab case that fits perfectly and am currently using it, but I think I would be even more satisfied if a dental floss case were released alongside it.
