The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that from February 23 to March 15, it detected eight companies (in order of company name), including Designers Lab, BHC Korea, I-Nano, L&P Cosmetic, Orem Barum, GL Communications, Curicare, and Huwell, in violation of the Cosmetics Act and issued administrative sanctions of suspension of sales and advertising activities and cancellation of registration.
# L&P Cosmetics Caught Over 10% Shortage in Key Ingredients of 'Functional Cosmetics'
According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, on February 23, BHC Korea was found to have advertised the cosmetic product 'Beermech German Beer Yeast Shampoo' through an internet site with content that could be mistaken for a pharmaceutical product, as well as the product's name and efficacy and effects. Consequently, the company was prohibited from conducting advertising activities for the product for three months (March 9 to June 8).
The following day, on February 24, four companies—Designers Lab, Huwell, L&P Cosmetic, and Orembarum—were added to the list of administrative sanctions imposed by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Among them, L&P Cosmetic received a one-month suspension of sales operations (March 10 to April 9) for its functional cosmetic product, 'Mediheal Collagen Impact-in Tightening Mask,' due to non-compliance with standards. The recall and inspection revealed that the content of the main ingredient responsible for functionality was more than 10% below the standard limit.
Three companies, including Designers Lab, Huwell, and Orumbarum, were all criticized for selling cosmetics through internet sites with advertisements that could be mistaken for pharmaceuticals.
For these reasons, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety imposed a three-month suspension of advertising activities for the relevant products on Designers Lab, Huwell, and Orembarum, respectively. Huwell is prohibited from advertising the problematic products from March 3 to June 2, while Designers Lab and Orembarum will be sanctioned from March 10 to June 9.
# iNano, Cancellation of registration due to loss of location
On February 28, Curicare was caught by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for making advertisements on its online shopping mall regarding the cosmetic product 'Curicare Miracle Whitening Cream,' which is sold by the company, that were false or likely to deceive consumers or cause them to misunderstand.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety viewed this as a violation of the Cosmetics Act and suspended advertising activities for 'Curicare Miracle Whitening Cream' for two months (March 2 to May 1).
On March 7, GL Communications received an administrative penalty of a one-month suspension of sales operations (March 13 to April 12) for importing and selling the cosmetic product 'Kamill Hand & Nail Cream Intensive 30ml' and listing an ingredient name (hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde) on the primary packaging that was not actually used in the manufacturing process, contrary to the ingredients used in the actual manufacturing process.
Also, on March 13, as a result of on-site inspection, it was confirmed that the facility in question was not at the location where the company was permitted (location lost), so iNano's registration was revoked (as of March 27, 2023).
