Is it true that perilla seeds are effective for removing freckles?

Last week, I received a perilla seed whitening serum as a gift from an acquaintance.

I heard this product is trending these days for removing freckles, haha.

Milia is a bigger problem for me, and my melasma seems relatively less severe, so I kept this aside to give to my mother. She is eighty-four now, and as she gets older, it definitely seems like she is getting more spots, like age spots. Is perilla seed extract effective for removing melasma? I'm curious if anyone has seen help with melasma removal by consistently using perilla seed whitening serum or cream.
