1. What is cellulite?
Cellulite is lumpy fat deposits beneath the skin, typically appearing on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and belly. It is a phenomenon distinct from fat accumulation, caused by circulatory disorders in the microvessels and lymphatic vessels within the subcutaneous fat layer. Cellulite makes the skin surface appear bumpy, resembling an orange peel.

2. Causes of cellulite
The exact cause of cellulite is unknown. However, the following factors can influence its development and worsening.
(1) Female hormones
Cellulite is common in women after puberty. During pregnancy, hormone levels such as estrogen, insulin, norepinephrine, thyroid hormone, and prolactin change. These hormones are part of the cellulite production process.
(2) Aging
Skin loses elasticity as it ages.
(3) Overweight
Chronic inflammation in the subcutaneous fat layer caused by excessive fat accumulation manifests as cellulite.
(4) Inactive lifestyle
Fibroedema-type cellulite develops as an inflammatory condition of the musculoskeletal system caused by overuse of muscles.
(5) Leaky Gut Syndrome
When intestinal mucosal cells are damaged, various bacteria and toxins invade, exit the intestines, travel through the bloodstream, and cause an inflammatory response. As a result, the extracellular matrix itself becomes contaminated, leading to the formation of cellulite.
(6) Environmental pollution
Endocrine disruptors such as environmental hormones, heavy metals, and toxic substances accumulate in large amounts not only in the subcutaneous fat layer but also in the extracellular matrix itself, so they can be a cause of cellulite.
