Walking or jogging are the most common and accessible forms of exercise. Regarding walking in particular, it is often said that one must walk 10,000 steps to see results; however, the concept of 10,000 steps is said to have originated as a marketing ploy to justify the Japanese term for a step-recording device called a "pedometer." Therefore, the intensity of the exercise may be more important than the number of steps. Walking for about 40 minutes a day, enough to break a sweat, is considered a suitable form of exercise.
