How did you choose the cosmetics you are currently using?
How did you choose the cosmetics you are currently using?
In an era where K-beauty is growing rapidly alongside the Korean Wave and products from various brands are flooding the market, finding good cosmetics and selecting the ones that suit you is a major problem that is by no means an easy one to solve.
Even if I check the full list of ingredients, look at reviews and Instagram, and verify opinions from those around me before buying, cosmetics that don't suit me always seem to pop up anytime, anywhere.
To help you even a little in times like this, I would like to share a single sentence that will assist you in choosing your cosmetics.
Is this a CGMP-certified cosmetic?
Extremely picky and meticulous, permitted to only 2%
The word CGMP in that random sentence is right It is an abbreviation for Cosmetics Good Manufacturing Practices.
This is a certification system administered by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and it is extremely difficult to obtain.
In particular, regarding cosmetic manufacturers, it stipulates the requirements for designation and post-certification management based on the evaluation of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and quality control standards; thus, certification can only be obtained if production facilities meeting certain standards are established and an appropriate program for operating them is simultaneously in place.
This is a certification system that requires a 6-step certification process and 120 days, excluding public holidays, to obtain certification.
It’s not even a single certification; it’s a brutal system that requires renewal every 2 to 3 years...
(It takes 6 months just to get verified... *shivers*)
It is said that the certification process takes a long time because it evaluates the entire manufacturing process of cosmetics.
We evaluate the organization, buildings, and hygiene of workplaces for excellent facilities in cosmetic manufacturing plants, as well as every moment from production to shipment.
I am a manager responsible for preventing contamination that may occur throughout the entire process, from the arrival of raw materials to the shipment of finished products, inspecting defective products two or three times, and thoroughly checking product safety.
Can just anyone obtain such a strict certification?
According to data from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, there were a total of 7,580 cosmetics manufacturers in Korea as of 2019.
Of these, only 162 companies are CGMP certified (excluding those that have closed down or voluntarily recalled products) !!
Do you realize once again just how difficult it is when you hear that only 2.2% of manufacturing plants have it?
