How to increase the longevity of base makeup

I have oily skin where sebum tends to rise to the surface. To increase the longevity of my base makeup, I use a paper towel after my skincare routine to remove excess oil. It acts as an oil blotting paper, helping the base makeup I apply later to last longer.
